I've got a Bogner Shiva 1x12 combo currently. I'm not a big fan of the stock Celestion Classic lead 80, so I am looking around for a possible replacement. The big problem here is that the Shiva is an 80 watt 1x12 combo - so my choices are fairly limited.
Would a Retro work in this amp? I know the retro 30 is rated at 75 watts - so will it not be able to handle the 80 watt shiva? Or, is it close enough to not be an issue? I really don't ever get the chance to crank the amp (most places I play are pretty conservative about how loud the band can be). Generally, I keep the master volume under halfway.
The reason I'm leaning toward the retro is because this amp could use a tiny bit more sparkle. It's got plenty of mids and lows. Actually, It sounds great through a 2x12 or 4x12 with Vintage 30's - but that speaker is rated at 60 watts, which might be a problem in a 1x12 format with this amp.
Anyway, I appreciate any help or suggestions!
Hi & welcome!
Yes, I think the Ret 30 would be a very good choice for you ... since you state wanting "a tiny bit more sparkle". That's exactly what you will get over the CL ... plus a bit more nimble, touch-sensitive response. Power wise, you should be fine; WGS rates somewhat conservative compared to other companies.
