I have a Lee Jackson designed Ampeg VL 502. For those that aren't familiar with this amp its a 50 watt hot rodded Marshall type amp from the early 90s. I currently run this head through a genz Benz gflex 2x12. I play mostly metal ( black sabbath, dio to Metallica and other 80s thrash all the way to some death metal) and I like the sound this cab gives but I'm betting there is a better set of speakers I could pair with this head. I've read that the amp was desined with vintage 30s in mind. I read somewhere that the genz Benz speakers in my 2x12 are modeled after v 30s but Im not sure. I'm in the process of building a 1960 style 4x12 cab and I'm looking for ideas of what speakers to fill it with. Suggestions would be appreciated. Sorry for the long post.
