I have an analog outfitters organic 15 amp ( like a deluxe reverb) and cab loaded with a pair of alnico 10's from the 1950's.    They sound unreal when played clean.  Loads of sparkle and nice n punchy n spanky.  However, they get pretty funky when driven hard.......almost take on a honky sonding harmonica personality.......and they get a little "raspy" .

Anyway, I wanna add another 2 x 10 cab with a pair of 10's that I can really drive hard.   My dilemma is:

a pair of G10c's          a pair of G10A's    or a combination of both.

I like the tight bottom end of the ceramic sound clips and I like the sweet chime of the alnico sound clips along with the "bouncy" ness it has when driven.   My gut tells me a combination would be the best route.

However, it would be nice to save some $$$$ and I am also just wondering if I would be happy with the pairing of the G10's.

I am mostly into  single coils.   I am just looking for some opinions here to help me with my decision.

Thanks!

James

Hi James,

Yes, you will be very happy with a pair of G10C's under the vintage Alnicos ... I actually have that combo in my regular gigging Super Reverb ... a pair of CTS Alnico's and a pair of G10C's ... for the exact reason you mention ... and it delivers "in spades".  However, if you think you may use ONLY the ext. cab from time to time, then you would probably want to go with one G10A and a G10C ... once you get hooked on AlNiCo it's hard to turn back :-)

Currious, what are the vintage AlNiCo models?
