It looks like I want either a Veteran 30 or an ET65, but I'm unsure which. If I'm lookng a tone most similar to a Creamback, which one would you suggest?
just to close the loop on this, I ordered the Reaper HP on Monday- got it on Thursday (great turnaround, BTW) It's much heavier then the 70/80 it replaced. I've only got a few hours on it, but early impression is very good- highs are ringing instead of the piercing of the 70/80. Better lows and mids, too.
Hi. I have a Vet 30 in my DSL40c that I installed about 2 weeks ago. While I like it, I wonder if the British Lead might be better. I go after 80s rock/metal sounds lik GnR, Cult, etc.. . .THAT sound. I like the samples I heard on this site but there is very little online ANYWHERE about that speaker. I'm told the Brit Lead has a rounder top end and bigger bottom. Any thoughts? Would it be even louder than the Vet 30 at the same volume settings on the amp (being 80 watts vs the Vet 30's 65?)?
Well ... you COULD go out on your own and get a Britt Lead ... and yes, it will be more appropriate in your 1x12 DSL40 ... or you could take the path suggested here and go with a ET65 or Reaper HP!
Thanks for the response. I see the OP mentioned he/she likes the sound of a Creamback, which led to your recommendations of the speakers you mentioned. I'm not sure my case is the same. . .I don't really know much about the Creamback or what genres/bands/guitar tones are associated with it. Given my love of the 80s cock rock/hard rock tones, would you still recommend those two speakers or something else? Keeping in mind I already have a Vet 30 in there currently.
That would be the ET65 ... or maybe the Reaper HP.
Sorry if I've taken a while to answer your question. I've been fighting Pneumonia the last couple of weeks!
no worries, hope you're feeling better-I'll be ordering next week, thanks for the feedback
Is the ET65 simmilar in tone with Reaper HP?!?
Yes ... with these differences...
The Reaper has a bit more of an authoritative low-bottom ... in the below 120Hz range.
The ET65 has a bit more in the range just above that ... say 160-220Hz ... which gives it a more "organic" tone.
Both are very smooth and rewarding in upper-midrange through highs.

Liberator--all the greatness of the ETs with higher headroom.
