Hi everyone,

I have a mid 70s vibrolux that needs help. It is a great harp amp but not a great guitar amp. I have had it modded to Black face specs and done a couple of other small tweaks, but it remains pretty dull with a flabby, strange midrange and bottom end. I used to have an all original BF Pro to compare it to...there was no comparison. The pro was a crazy great amp that worked well with pedals and just smoked for guitar or harp.

My next step is speaker replacement as it appears CBS really chaapened things in this department by the mid 70s. Anyone else have experience with this amp or amps like it? Did it make a difference when you replaced the speaker? It appears the G10C or G10C/S are my options. Which is best?

Use the "search WGS" box ... the Vibrolux has been covered a lot here.  But, start with:

Yea, by the 70's the stock speakers were seriously compromising an otherwise really good amp.

If it were me, I'd buy a nice pair of NOS CTS alnico's from the mid-late 60's ... oh, wait ... those aint available ... okay, make that a pair of G10's!
