Looking for the best path to take on a speaker upgrade. Not digging the stock "VHT Chromeback" speaker. I noticed that if you get an upgraded cab from VHT, it includes two Celestion G12H30 speakers. I am only using a 1x12 cabinet, running two 6L6 power tubes and three 12AX7 preamp tubes at 20 watts.  The stock speaker is rated at 60 watts.

I am up in the air as to which speaker to lean towards. I really like the sound of a Marshall JCM900's clean channel. I was thinking about the HM75 speaker, which is the equivilant of what comes stock in a JCM900. I have read many questions on this forum that say that the HM75 is not a great all-around speaker for a 1x12. What would you suggest for me? Thanks in advance.

What are you trying to acomplish with the speaker upgrade?

Thanks for the response Vaughn. Think early 90's alternative music. (PJ Harvey, The Breeders, etc.) I use one of those orange Boss pedals (I think it's a DS-2) with very low gain and very high volume to kick my amp into an overdriven sound. That is really my main "tone". Very, very seldom, but occassionally, I will use the DS-2 as it was intended... i.e. even out the volume and gain and use it as "Distortion". My next most used "tone" would probably be a Big Muff. I use this with fairly high settings, it really sounds like my amp is going to explode. Not because of an overload or anything, I was just saying it sounds like it's going to because there is so much fuzz effect on it. My least used but occasionally used would be the amp with no effects on it. I usually use this when I am getting the amp warmed up as well as my fingers warmed up and ready to go :). So, basically, I am looking for whatever you think would be able to accomplish it all. I do like a bit of a mid-range hump in sound, but since the DS-2 pedal that is almost always on has a bit of a mid-range bump, I think I would be happier with a rather balanced EQ speaker. Since I like the Marshall clean sound a lot, do you think I should look into a "beefier" sounding speaker or something? Either way, I will take your recommendation and go with that. Thanks again.

I should probably mention that I use Fender single-coils very often, so warmth in a speaker is not a big deal. I do use a bridge humbucker with my Big Muff as well though.
