I have had my 65 twin RI for about two years now and its a great amp iv'e pushed these speakers pretty hard hoping to break them in but they are still very stiff and there are just some high frequencies it hits that are truly painful. i'd like a similar speaker that keeps the chime but warm, smooth and wide it seems like either the G12 C/S or ET 65 would be great replacments but would like to know what would be best for this amp. it would also be nice if the speaker i choose was a little softer as far as volume then the jensens so that i could comfortable play when giging with the amps volume at 5 right now it can just be unbarably loud but that seems to be the sweet spot.

Yea ... totally hear ya!  A Twin Reverb was my first gigging amp ... and there is probably no amp where the speaker is of more importance (and the re-issue Jensens are terribly stiff and brittle).  And yes, you have it down to the right two choices ... here is how to know which one is for you:

The G12C/S smoothcone is right for you if...

  • You currently do NOT use the bright switch and/or seldom have the treble above 5.
  • You currently have the bass above 5 often.
  • You LOVE that classic Fender/JBL D120F ORANGE color!
  • You dont just want to tame the ice-pick ... you want to dramatically remove it.

The ET65 is right for you if...

  • You currently play with the bass usually below 5-6.
  • You usually have the bright switch ON and/or have the treble above 5.
  • You only want to tame the ice-pick ... not dramatically remove it.

Awesome thank you. i was leaning towards the G12C/S but from your description It sounds like The ET65s would be the right choice for me. i was leaning towrd the G12C/S beacouse i liked the description and im realy looking for the most change during leads i love the cleans i would just like to smooth and tame the highs in the leads.  is there any good adio out there of the each speaker in the 65 twin ? Thank you.

Man ... if you don't mind having one white and one orange speaker ... get one of each.  Then, you can do that head-t0-head shootout!  Oh, and don't worry about running the Twin with only one speaker ... a Twin is plenty hapy anywhere from 2 to 16 ohms!
