I have a Crate Palomino V16 (15w, 12", open back, Class A). The stock speaker is a "Palomino Series" 50W Celestion speaker. I don't hate the speaker but I wanted to deepend the tone so I replaced with a G12C/S. I noticed immediately that an upgraded speaker was beneficial but, after a while I found the G12C/S to be too dark/woody for my taste. It is nothing against the speaker....it's a great speaker but just too heavy sounding for what/how I play. I am looking for something that will open the tone up like the G12C/S did but with a speaker that is less woody. I play a Telecaster and a Gretsch 6120 with Filtertrons. I have seen you recommend an ET65 for other similar sized open back amps such as a Blues Junior. Would that be a good choice? Or should I go with the G12C, perhaps? Thanks!
Yes, the smooth-cones are VERY "dark/woody"!!! They generally only pair well with very bright amps.
ET-65 FOR SURE ... go for it and don't look back. Post back here with your glowing report :-)
