Hello, new guy here.

So I have a bright chinese-made Masters  EL84 1x12 combo whose cleans I like with my low-to-medium output alnico 2 High Order pickups (asymetrically wound, as I often split them). Overdrive channel sounds promising but it is a bit harsh, raspy with the stock speaker. The amp is nominally 30 watts, supposedly class A but I can assume, based on what I've read, it puts out more like 45 watts when overdriven at gig volumes, if not more. The stock speaker is supposedly modeled after a G1280, so rated at 80w power handling.

I want the amp to have a bit more tight bass overall and sound less harsh when overdriven. The eq controls are shared on the channels so I was thinking of getting something like a Suhr Koko Boost for a midrange boost for solos. I will be playing clean a lot so a high headroom and late break-up is important. For this reason I've been looking at some of the Eminence speakers with higher power and sensitivity ratings, but I came across your brand while watching some comparison videos on YouTube.

I like the sounds of your ET90, and Liberator speakers. My main concern with these two, though, would be break-up and bass content. Like I said I'd like to add bass and smooh out the top end without making the amp sound muzzled, congested. I know high power handling does these two things. Around $100 is the limit for my budget, and anyway this is the beginning of this quest, so I might not even buy a new speaker for a few months.... That being said, what WGS speaker would you recommend for this application? Liberator or ET90?

And now the request: Vaughn can you do a shoutout vid between the Liberator and ET90? Feel free to include any of your ownalnico 2 humbuckers/single-coils (as I would be interested in hearing thise as well), and if you have an EL84 powered amp with an output of about 30-40 watts the better  LOL!!! I know these takes a lot of time, so this request is half joking. Thanks!

Here are the keys to your puzzle:

"I want the amp to have a bit more tight bass overall and sound less harsh when overdriven.

"I'd like to add bass and smooh out the top end without making the amp sound muzzled, congested."

You have just asked for an ET65 :-)
