Ok, so I have poured through hours of YouTube videos and and posts in this forum, and all I can say is that I am now more confused than ever. In the gear head spirit, I bypassed getting a tiny combo as my first amp and purchased a Blackstar HT-1RH head which is a (tiny) 1 watt tube amp with the intention of building my own 1/3 open WGS speaker pine cabinet, birch back and baffel. I play an Epi LP 2010 Tribute with Gibson USA '57 Classic Humbuckers that you can tap to single coil. This cab will be my in home practice and drag along to friends house to jam cabinet. Music I love is Zepplin and Pink Floyd to G-n-R and Rush to Metallica and Tool. Sorry in advance if this post is long, but feel the need to over explain so you have the best understanding...
1x12 or 2x10? My initial thought was a single, simple 1x12 with a Brit voiced speaker (like Retro and Veteran, but not too familiar with others in line) which is what I am most drawn to. Then began looking at 2x10 as the ability to mix speakers is very appealing, but the lack of British voiced 10" speakers makes me tear up. A 2x12 for my house would probably be waaay overkill and the wife would likely divorce me.
I am looking for best recommendations on either a 1x12 or 2x10 cab and speakers you think would suit the type if music I like and gear I have for either scenario. Advantages, disadvantages etc.. Anyone please feel free to chime in as I am an inexperienced guitar player and am relying on you for my initial speaker cab! Thanks guys...
Man ... everything you said points to one speaker: The Green Beret. This is the truest recreation of a vintage Pre-Rola GreenBack that you'll find this side of 1969!
Fires up great with low-watt amps - check!
Zepplin - check!
Floyd - Check!
GnR - Check!
Metalica ... Rush ... Tool - Check!
Thanks Vaughn! So looking like a 1x12 with a Green Beret... Do you have a recommendation for a speaker to pair with that one in case I go totally crazy and build a 2x12 cab?
Yea, Probably the Reaper ... the "other" classic Britt voice ...
