Like the title says, I'm looking for a good speaker to pair with my new (to me) Mesa Express 5:50 head.  

I currently have a Reaper in my large 1x12 cab, and it sounds incredible.  However, I know there is no way the Reaper will handle the Express.  What do you suggest as a good replacement?

The cab is one I made.  It's the AX84 project head, and it has a rear port.  As far as target tones, I really want to take advantage of the Mesa's versatility, but would likely favor rock tones over pure clean ones.

Ha!  That's pretty much what I thought.  Is is safe to use solo with the cranked 5:50?

The HP is safe in an amp of up to 50 true RMS watts ... but, another option that would be a little safer if you're going to be asking all the 5:50's got a lot is the ET90 ... pretty similar tone and about double the safe wattage.
