I just purchased a mesa blue angel. I believe it has Jensen Alnico 10s in it now, but I am looking for some 10s to tone down the highs a bit for a creamier tone. Right now it is too bright and piercing, even with the treble all the way down. It may just be the amp, but I'm hoping to tame it a bit. Also, it gets all of its distortion from pushing the power tubes. To get the sound I like, I have to crank the amp. Can I get earlier breakup by changing speakers? Any info is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
James
Yea ... search my blog, I did extensive 10" comparisons a year or so back ... those Jensen re-issues are very harsh. But ... I know exactly what to do: Replace TWO of them with G10C's. I did this in a re-issue Fender Super Reverb with excellent results. The G10's are more efficient and become the predominate voice ... adding a bunch of solid bottom end, and the Jensen's keep a nice little bit of top-end AlNiCo sparkle in the mix. Result: perfect!
Oh, and you can sell the pair of overpriced Jensen's for more than you paid for the G10C's! :-)
