I'm going for the typical Marshall tones for classic rock, raspy blues, I also like fendery clean from a deluxe reverb with less highs.

I read another post where 2xET-65 was recommended for the VS265.

Elsewhere I read that for the vintage Marshall tone in a 2x12 cabinet, it was recommended a combination of ET-65 with a Retro30.   Can someone explain the differences in sound between these recommendations and recommend something for the VS265 to enhance some highs and firm up the bass side of the spectrum.

The other question is for the Marshall Valvestate 8080 1x12 combo.   Which speaker would be best for vintage Marshall tones.  Retro30 or something else?   The other concern I have is that the Retro30 is rated for 75watts where the amp power rating is 80W.  Is this a potential risk for blowing the speaker.   Normally I would put in higher wattage speaker for some safety margin. (eg 15W amp use a 30W rated speaker)  Would the higher power speaker models ET-90 or Blackhawk HP(alnico) be a better option for this amp?

I like these amps for the money and would like to improve the sound to something like a real tube tone without the outlay of $$$.

Thanks

John
