several years ago I swapped out the original goldback junk and put an 8 ohm Vintage 30 in My DSL-401, and I like it. (although i find it a bit harsh and lacking bottom) I put the 8 ohm in because I got a deal, and never thought I would be running an extension cab.  Now I am adding a 1x12 closed back cab (custom built to perfectly  match the size of the 401  )  so now I need to swap out the speaker in the amp with 16 ohm and drop a 16 ohm in the cab to run the amp still at 8 ohms.  Playing rock and blues for a gazillion years. If i use WGS speakers,... I assume a vet 30 is good choice for the amp as it is like a Vintage 30, but how bout the best speaker for the 112 closed back cab that will sound good with the vet and maybe get me some better/added bottom end?  Here's a chance to sell two speakers and get a Vintage 30 yanked out !  sell me....    Thanks  !!!!

Since you find the V30 "a bit harsh and lacking bottom" ... you might want to consider the new ET90 ... which has a good bit more bottom.

HOWEVER, the WGS Vet 30 does not have as much HARSHNESS as the current crop of Celestian Vint 30's ... so it would sound a lot like what you already have, but without the icepick.

Ok, so I rolled the dice and bought a Vet 30 for the amp, and an ET-65 for the custom built 112 cab. Impressed with the build construction of the speakers right from the box. Promptly installed them.   Tried the amp alone....Sweet.  definitely like the vet 30 better than the Celestion Vintage 30.  Way better cleans..better bottom, and less top edge on the distortion. Impressive.....  And then.....I added the 112 with the ET-65.  Woah...  talk about rounding out a sound.  Adding the 112 filled out into an incredible musical sound range. All I can say is that if you own a Marshall DSL 401, do yourself a favor.  This amp/speaker/cab (and good Tubes) combo absolutely rocks for a 40 W rig.  Yes you have to bring two cabs to the job... but both are very manageable, but neither need wheels, and the sound improvement will blow you away. If the place is small, the amp alone with the Vet 30 is really really good. Im Glad I did the deal.  I am a officially a WGS fan.  Thanks Guys !!!

Thanks so much for taking the time to come back & post your results here!  Love the head to head comparison of a Vintage 30 & Veteran 30!
