I have a Marshall 1987x re-issue 50 watt head through a Blackstar Series One 4x12 with vintage 30's. I hate the sound. it's too brittle. I want a responsive well rounded clear sound with plenty of headroom.
I'm wondering what the right solution would be? Green Beret's, Blackhawk, or the WGS12L. Thoughts?
Since you say ... " too brittle. I want a responsive well rounded clear sound with plenty of headroom."
I'd say go with ET90s ... or maybe 65s.
This is my first 4x12, and the best amp I've ever owned. I'm learning how to describe the sound. I've been talking with other friends who play. I guess I would say the bigger Balckstar 4x12 with Vintage 30's either lacks mid's or over accentuates the highs and lows. I love the sound of a bluesbreaker, which uses greenbacks, which to me sounds warm and evenly distributed tone.
Should I really be looking at Green Beret's or Reaper's? Or could I pair either of these up with the ET90?
If you were to match up a 4x12 cabinet with a Marshall 1987 re-issue, what would you put with it and why?

It would be Green Berets ... FOR SURE!
Why? Because that IS the classic Marshall sound from that era ... period.
Also, that should bring back the urgent midrange that you say is lacking :-)
Hey Vaughn. I saw your video on the Green Beret vs. Reaper. I ended up going with the Reaper and love it. I'm amazed at the difference speakers make. Thanks for doing what you do.
