Hi there, I was looking for a little advice on choosing a speaker combo for a 2x12 cab. I currently use vintage 30s but find them very bright, brittle, piercing and ice-picky.

I like the sound of greenbacks and am considering the invader 50 but have heard that greenbacks can have a bright top end. I want something warm and round and smooth on the top end but with a little aggression that greenbacks have. I play a lot of rock/heavy rock and don't want to get lost in the mix.

Would an invader with an et-65 be a good combo? Would that smooth out my top end? Do you have any recommendations? I have a 50w Blackstar ht50 so the combination must be able to handle 50w.

Thanks,

Chris

Dude, with a 50-watt amp ... that sure sounds like a pair of Green Berets to me!

Would the green beret not be too harsh at the top end? and aren't amp ratings clean, so wouldnt my amp exceed 50w when cranked and blow a speaker?

I have Invader/Reaper HP combo 2X12.

the Reaper HP seems like it takes a back seat to the Invader. The Invader is shamelessly 'in yer face!' I don't believe that the Reaper compliments the Invader. I could be wrong. Have been before. But it's MY tone.

Cannot go wrong with ET 65. (I've got three now) Two combined with Vets, and the other Retro.

I would definitely go for the Invader/ ET 65 Combo. I would do so, but I'm matching different Ohms.
