Hey-

I am close to pulling the trigger on a quad of either Green Berets, Reaper 30's, or a combination, in order to get closer to Van Halen 1 tone. Rockstah Mark says he uses older Celestion Greenbacks with 6402 on the cones.

Can you tell me which WGS Green Beret variant would come closest?

PS--I am using a modded 100 watt Marshall 1959 and closed back 4x12.

Thanks,

Andy

The Green Berets are about the closest match to a vintage Green Back that you will find in a current production speaker.  Plus, they will arrive sounding fairly vintage/broken-in.

Cool, thanks Vaughn. I ordered a pair of Green Berets, and a Reaper 30 (I also found one used), so the question is, should I put the Green Berets on top, or, do an X pattern with the Reapers?

Thanks.

If it we me, I would go with the Reapers on the bottom, and the GB's on top.  The x-pattern would sound good ... but I prefer to know for sure which speaker is where ... it's easy to tell the sound person to "mic one of the top speakers".  Tonally, the GB's will have a more pronounced midrange urgency, and the Reapers will be just a little fuller sounding ... level wise, they will be nearly identical.  Let us know how the combo woks for you.

Cool, that's what I figured, and, since I mostly sit in front of the cab at home, Reapers on the bottom will fatten up the low end, while Green Berets on top will let me hear the growl better!

I'll post results when the speakers are installed!

Thanks!

I installed my Green Berets / Reaper 30's and they sound awesome! Total crunch city, with the Reapers adding some definition to the mix! Thanks for the help, and for making such great sounding speakers here in the USA!
