Have a 1974 Peavey tweed classic series 100. 50 watts RMS. It is a hybrid (SS pre-amp and tube power. It uses 2x6L6's) It has 2 original CTS 12 inch speakers that just don't cut it anymore. I can only get clean tones on very low volume (can't go past #3 on the volume control) then they start to break up. I like playing classic rock and blues and would like to take this on gigs. I 'm playing mostly through a tele. Any suggestions on replacements? I play mostly rhythm so I like to keep it mostly clean, but would like a little break up if need be.
Thanks. Steve
Thanks for giving me all the details needed to make a solid recommendation! And ... the easy answer is a pair of ET 65’s for a sweet, smooth, tone that overdrives with grace and beauty ... make one a Retro 30 if you want some Brit vibe and a little more sparkle on top and boom on the bottom.
