Hello,
I'm looking to put together a 2x12 cabinet for a 5150 type high gain amp for a good result to play anywhere from aggressive brutal chugging metal to classic Van Halen and anywhere in between, but I want that solid heavy pounding low end to go with the Veteran 30 that already has the mids and highs covered.
Can you point me in the right direction for an aggressive tighter low end speaker that maybe also has the highs but the mids more scooped ?
Thanks in advance...Snake.
Best LOW end speaker option to go with a Veteran 30 for Metal ?

Sounds precisely like the discontinued HM75 you can probably still buy on line. Deeper low end for drop tunings, scooped midrange, and virtually the same 2.4kHz and 3.2kHz peaks as the Vet 30. The wide felt duct cap softens the highs above that and minimizes any potential mutual inner-cone resonance cancellations. I can't imagine a better choice for the price. Something much more expensive may well not make a significant difference anyway.
Thank you.
The HM75 is virtually the same as the Celestion G12T-75, correct ?
I'm just curious, as I see on the forum here a lot of recommendations for the HM75, why did WGS discontinue this speaker ? Did they replace it with another speaker of equal sound quality ?
Also, of the Veteran 30 and the Reaper HP, which speaker do you think would be a better sound combination with an HM75 for the type of music I mentioned above ? I realize that the HP is of lesser wattage at 50 watts, where the Veteran 30 is 75w...would the lesser wattage make a difference as well with the HM75 being a 75w ? I have been debating between those two, as I also love the sound of the Reaper HP, but that and the Veteran 30 are pretty different, and I wasn't certain of the combo with a 25w difference.
I'm not a big fan of the Retro 30 sound though, just as a note.
Thanks again, Snake.
Thank you.

I was wondering, of the Veteran 30 and the Reaper HP, which speaker do you think would be a better sound combination with an HM75 for the type of music I mentioned above ?
Also, is there a WGS equivalent to a G12H-75 Creamback ? Also a good sounding speaker.
Thanks...Snake.
The HM75 is like the original G12T-75, which were sweeter and fatter sounding than the new ones. Don't know why it is discontinued. The Lead 80 is similar with maybe more upper-bass warmth and ~3kHz edginess. I see no reason at all it wouldn't mix quite well with the Vet 30. The Reaper HP should be great with the Vet 30. That nice Vet 30 midrange growl peaks through the Reaper sound in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wr8ZiQDxznU
The Reaper HP should just have slightly stronger bass and slightly smoother high end.
Compare to his other video with the Retro 30: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_-noVcbZ1uY
Sounds great too, ay? Bear in mind, the high end of both of those speakers would dominate the Vet 30.
You might even want the deeper bass of the old Reaper 55Hz if you don't might a bit more ~3.2kHz+ grit and even stronger high end. Wattage rating doesn't matter when mixing speakers. The sensitivity rating is what determines the loudness at a given power input, but other factors also affect how they mix.
Thanks for getting back with me...much appreciated.
Man, I'm torn between the combination of a Vet 30 w/ an HM75......or a Reaper HP w/ a HM75 !
Which of these do YOU think would be a better combo for the type of music I was referring too above ?
Or...
I would even consider a combination of the Reaper HP w/ a Vet 30, like you mentioned, but my only concern is that I wouldn't get enough of that low end growl that I'm looking for along with the nice highs and medium mids. I'm concerned if I get too much in the mids and highs that the bottom end will not be pronounced enough.
Is the Reaper HP similar to the Celestion G12H-75 Creamback, and do you think that would give me a good lower end and not be to middy to high without that lower end ?
Decisions...decisions.
I just wish I could find any good clips of the HM75, or even samples ! The very few videos I do find are very poor quality, and very muddy playing. It would give me a much better sense if I could hear their sound as true as possible.
Anyway...
These speakers, whatever the combo, would go into a closed back 2x12 Harley Benton cab, and I use mainly Jacksons and ESPs with dual humbuckers.
I just want to get that tone that I can go either way from very heavy to Van Halen'esque and all places in between, as much as possible without having to switch out speakers or get another cab to do so. Kind of a one size fits all, as much as possible, without having to break the bank.
Thanks again for all your help...Snake.

Okay ... honestly, the HM 75 almost always sounded dry and lifeless to me ... it only opened up at HUGE volume levels... so Good Riddance HM75 ...
For you: Hello ET90 ... this sounds like what you are after. Other good contenders would be the Reaper HP and British Lead ... but I feel the ET90 is the clear winner.
Thank you Vaughn,
I'll look into the E90.
Thanks...Snake.

That BE100 clone amp is a wild beast. Note the ET90's are in an open-back cab with one close mic'd dead center with a good ole SM57. Big and bright, but not harsh. A Vet 30 should add some nice growl and 2.4kHz clarity.
