I am looking to upgrade the Elite 80 in this cabinet. The Elite 80 is rumored to be a Classic 80 with added low end. It is a closed back cabinet with a port in the front. I use a Blackstar HT-5 head and the sound seems muffled on the OD channel with diminished note definition on chords. I notice the same when I plug my DSL401 into the cabinet. My primary guitar is a Les Paul studio faded with a Rio Grande BBQ or Dimarzio Super Distortion PU in the bridge. The issue is a lower mid mush that I cannot dial out with EQ to help identify the bad freq. I play classic rock, older metal and blues rock. What WGS speaker would you recommend? Would this cabinet be improved by closing the port? How about modifying for open back.

Yea ... that's part of why ported cabs have never taken off in a big way for guitar purposes ... the "tuning" of the port can really be controlling!

I'm leaning toward a Green Beret (if the wattage is ok), or a Invader. Oh, and you can also try sealing the port to see if you like that better ... but you probably won't as the box is just to small to be sealed...
