I read through several threads but could not find the answer I was looking for. I just bought my first pair of WGS speakers. Long time guitar player, only use Marshall 100w half stacks and Gibson guitars. The cabinet I bought these for is a standard 1960 4x12. I bought two ET-65s to replace two aging Celestion GK-85s. They were mixed with the two current production Celestion V30s. I spent many hours researching speakers, listening to audio clips, and really liked both the Retro 30 and ET-65. I play mostly metal and hard rock. Should I mount these in a X pattern, or should I stack them top to bottom? (2 of the same stacked). Thanks!
I'd do an X pattern.
Thanks!
Another option would be going with the bassier ones or the more sensitive ones at the bottom.
The Retro 30 appears to have several dB more 5~6kHz presence than the ET65. All that range you'd hear with two Retro's on top would be from them, but it will beam in a narrow horizontal range of probably less than ~10d off axis. With one of each speaker on top, 5~6kHz won't be as loud on axis, but should disperse twice at widely. I'd say an X pattern is the way to go for a balanced sound with the most even high end dispersion.
