I just put an ET65 in my Peavey Studio Pro 112 and I love it. It helped tame shrill highs and overly prominent mids of the stock speaker.
I also bought a little Peavey Blazer 15 watt amp for low volume bedroom use and I want to upgrade the 8 inch speaker. WGS is my first choice for a number of reasons, including price, but i can't find many forum posts or youtube videos on the W8C. (I have seen Vaughn's Champ video).
I know any 8" speaker will sound small... that's okay. I am not looking for volume, just better sound quality, The stock speaker sounds boxy and the midrange is too honky. I would like more bass, but my expectations here are reasonable.
I am also looking at:
Eminence 820h... pricey but I am willing to pay if it is worth it.
The Celestion Eight 15... very affordable, but will I find the midrange overbearing?
... and possibly Jensen MOD8 or a Weber.
I view a speaker purchase as a long term investment, as I may put it in different amps in coming years.
Any firsthand experiences you could share would be most appreciated!
Comparing 8" speakers
Been thinking about getting a new 8" myself. The WGS 8" speaker has been receiving very high marks in reviews and the price is great too (I have no affiliation with WGS). Premiere Guitar mag had an 8" roundup. Here is the link: https://www.premierguitar.com/articles/25370-for-swapping-8-speaker-revi...
I build a lot of 18-watt(ish) 1x8" combo amps (2-6v6 in class A/B at near class A idle). I tried EVERY 8" I could get my hands on and NOTHING sounded better than the WGS 8".
See the amps at www.VaughnSkow.com ... they sell in the $1,600 range ... so cost was not really a concern, I was just looking for the best tone.
