Hello Vaughn - I have a 2008 Fender 212R 100W Solid-State loaded with 2 "Special Design" 12s, which produces a beautiful clean sound, but only at low to low-mid volumes The dirty channels are just plain awful. Then once you decide to turn it up on any channel, it all goes south from there, being so unbelievably loud to where I've nicknamed it the "Anti-Christ". So playing it in the house at anything past low-mid volume and above is a definite no-go.
Since this amp does have the raw power (absolutely no doubt about that!), any recommendations on speakers for this baby?
I do wish to keep it because as I stated before, the clean channel with a touch of (actual spring) reverb is as close as it gets to the beautiful vintage Fender tone.
Many Thx As Always!
I haven't played through that amp ... but my gut instinct would be ET65's - they are usually magic in a Fender. Oh, and just skip the amps overdrive and go with a good OD pedal!
Hi Vaughn, I have the same amp, Fender Frontman 212R, and would like to get better clean sound from it also and am willing to try the ET65s. You say they are like magic for most Fender amps. Should I order the 8 ohm or 16 ohm ones? and should I use series or parallel wiring? I plan to purchase a used Fender Mustang "Floor" multi effects board to go with the upgraded Frontman.
Any other suggestions or comments are also welcome.
Thanks, Andre'
2 8-ohm speakers in parallel, just like it came with!
Hey guys I'm in the 212r special design 12s club as well! Therefore I'm also in the impractically loud club with you guys. Is it safe to disconnect one of the speakers by the disconnecting the 2 wires plugged into it? Is that a dumb idea? I want that nice clean tone with less push when I get my volume up.
Jake - yea, no problem! That SS amp is fine with 4-ohms ... or ... anything LESS ... so one 8 ohm is perfect for taming the volume!
