Hi,

inhave a Splawn Quickrod currently using 2 Splawn Small block speakers (similar to a greenback with higher wattage) in a Port City 2x12 cab. The Small Blocks are good but have a pronounced midrange. I'm looking for something to tame a harsh midrange. When I plug my Blackstar into the Small Blocks it too has harsh, pronounced mids. What do you all think might smooth out the mids? ET65? A combo set? Vet 30/ET65?

Cool amp!  And man ... you are right on target with the ET-65!

Thanks, Vaughn! Would the ET 65 pair better with a retro 30 or the reaper hp? Or even another ET65?  I'm looking to tame the upper mids and slightly darken the brightness of the amp....

Since you say you are: "looking to tame the upper mids and slightly darken the brightness of the amp" ...

I'd say my #1 recommendation would be a pair of ET65s ... unless you really want a little different flavor out of the two speakers, then make one a Reaper HP.  The Ret 30 would take you in the wrong direction all together!

Thanks! I figured a V30 type speaker wouldnt be right but i wanted your opinion on that anyway.

Is there another speaker that might achieve the type of tone I'm looking for that's NOT a Greenback style speaker? Just curious...
