Just got a Pro Junior III and hate the stock Eminence Ramrod spaeker in it. Just way too flat and lifeless with almost no headroom. Tried the amp with my ET65 and a Weber 12F150A and it sounded WAY better! I realize the small Pro Junior cab is a bit limiting and wonder if an ET10 in there will sound close to how it sounds with the ET65 in a larger cab? I read your article on the G10C for this amp as well. I am kind of leaning towards either of those two. From reading the specs, I am thinking that the G10C might be a bit brighter with a tad less bass, and that the ET 10 may be a bit smoother and flatter with a tad more bass. Is this an accurate assumption? Any suggestions for this amp are greatly appreciated :)
Cheers
Tim
The ET10 would be a great improvement in a PJ ... and it is probably a little "smoother and flatter" than the G10 ... but the G10 can certainly keep right up with the ET10 on bottom end!
The biggest issue with Pro Juniors is that the box is too small to actually truly sound GOOD with ANY speaker (and it's MDF with no resonance whatsoever) ... so you're stuck with varying levels of "ok".
My very next blog will be on taking great little amps like that and putting them in bigger cabs made from real quality wood and making real tone monsters out of them ... be sure to read, it'll post in a week to 10-days!
I ended up getting the ET10. HUGE improvement over that "horrible" stock Eminence Red Coat Ramrod!! I can't believe anyone could like that speaker. Anyway, I have upgraded the tubes, added the ET10, replaced the baffle with 1/2" Baltic Birch Ply and will next be doing the Supreme Fromel mod for these amps. While the amp does sound a bit better through the 1x12 ET65 combo cab, I would say it is at least 90% there with the ET10 in the stock PJ cab with the replaced baffle. My whole purpose for this switch is to get two small, light Pro Juniors and use them for my stereo rig. Now I just need to find another used Pro Junior??
For the stereo companion I am thinking of getting either the Retro 10 or the G10C. Which one do you think would match up best with the ET10? Which one is "brighter"
Cheers . . . . . Tim
P.S. Glad to see the forum back up and running. What was the problem with it?
