I wanted to try out a Fender Strat HH because I was looking for a more robust tone quality than the single coil Strats have. So, I decided to go with the more economical MIM HH Strat.  I was very disappointed with the blah quality of the HH sotck pickups that came with that guitar so I decided that I needed to see if there was someone out there that would give some advice on how to get a higher quality sound of the MIM HH Strat before making the decision to take it back to the store.  Luckily I ran across some of Vaughn Skow's YOUTUBE videos so I lookied up his phone number and email.  When I go to a doctor, I observe to see if the doctor lets me explain whatever my ailment is. Many doctors don't have time to listen to their patients.  Well, when I began communicating with Vaughn, I immediately noticed that he was willing to listen to what I had run into with my dissatisfaction of the stock HH pickups and that I was really into humbuckers especially those from Gibson.  I was very impressed with Vaughn's high level of expertise and with how he undertood what I was looking for.  Since I liked the tone quality of Gibson humbuckers, he suggested that I try out his "1959 Zebra Historic PAF Humbuckers.  I took his advice and I am glad I did cause after I installed those on the MIM Strat, it came alive with the humbucker juicy sound that I was wanting to hear.  Not only was I impressed with his expertise on pickups but I also observed that Vaughn is an expert on speakers.  In my collection of Fender Strats and Teles, I wanted to improve the tone quality of a Fender Deluxe Strat that I have so Vaughn made what he calls "Vaughn's Fat and Juicy Strat Pickups".  I installed those and the sound went from a thin twangy sound to a robust "macho" type of quality.  Vaughn is definitely a guru on pickups and speakers. Thanks for taking the time to post your results here Elio!  Yea ... like I just said in another post ... it seems like these days even the lower-end Fender models can be very nice playing and looking guitars ... "but they still insist on putting crappy pickups in them!  Just like the companies that still insist on putting crappy SPEAKERS in otherwise decent amps ... when will the manufacturers learn???"

I couldn't agree more about Vaughn Skow being a 'Guru'. I purchased a set of Velvet Tele's for my 2000 American Standard Tele and the sound just knocks me out!

For pickups, Vaughn has found the original engineering drawings, all the wintage materials, and then built the technical knowledge to make these classic pickups as good or better than the originals... and even then throw in a few models that are based on his own tastes-- like my new Velvet Teles!

I wish I had the knowledge to learn all this technical electronics stuff but am happy playing my rejuvenated Tele...
