I know this topic has been brought up numerous times before but I was looking at a speaker configuration for my 212 cabinet. Right now the amp that I am working with his voiced really well for celestion Greenback speakers. When I play with vintage thirties it sounds amazing as well. I was looking for something to bridge the gap between both of those when. I want something that has the clarity and low-end of the greenbacks and the crunch without the harshness of the Vintage 30s. I was looking for a speaker combination that can handle 120 watts or more. Which combination would work the best for me. The cabinet that I am running is built to Mesa dual rectifier standard 212 specs.
I know I kinda sounds like a broken record here ... but the combo of a Retro30 and ET65 is exactly what you just described you were looking for!
You guys are awesome for your advice. I just wanted to clarify prior to getting myself this combo. Next question, what would be the recommendation for break-in to have these sounding optimum (time, volume, etc)? I will be playing these in a live band situation.
Man ... about 8-10 hours of regular playing should get em fully broken-in for ya!
I have a 2x12 and 4x12 with the R30 and ET65. Great combination as Vaughn stated.
