Hi, I've got a '61 Epiphone Devon EA35T that is about 10-12 watts with 2 6BM8 power tubes (same circuit and factory as Gibson GA8T). It came with an original Jensen with a tiny magnet. Currently I have an old Rola pulled from an organ in it that I like except for lacking some low end. I've tried a couple of British flavored speakers and they don't really work well. This amp is a little lean in the bottom and has plenty of mids and treble on tap - just a Tone knob. I want to keep this amp on the Fender-y side tonally as I also have a Vox for brit tone.

I'm leaning towards the G12C - it seems to get great reviews for Fendery/Jensen-like tone and seems to have more bottom and depth.

What is your recommendation?

Thanks

John

Don't do it!  The G12C is actually our brightest speaker (at least in the spiky 1.5-3k range).

Now the G12C/S however ... believe it or not ... is our warmest speaker.  That cone is just plain fat ...  go for that :-)

Planning to replace the too-thin anemic sounding Jensen 12Qc in a recently restored Gibson GA-8T - Is the G12CS a good choice or a Veteran 30? Also -regarding the custom shop - I like the orange basket on the G12CS in most cases, but is it possible to get it in a different color for this application ? Iwant to keep the amp looking vintage and the orange just screams too new.

Describe the tone you are going for ... and what you want to change about how the amp sounds.

Right now the amp through the stock Jensen is very thin with no bottom - no real volume - but if I plug it into a 2X12 cab with Vintage 30's I have, it sounds great - full, loud and maybe too much bass. That's why I'm leaning towards the G12CS.

"maybe too much bass. That's why I'm leaning towards the G12CS. ..."

Then DON'T go smooth-cone!  It'll be way too much bass!

If you like the V30 sound, but would like just a touch more top-end, then that is the RETRO 30!
