I have a handwired JTM 45 clone (metropoulos instructions) as close to the original as possible. I play blues-rock stuff.

I'm thinking of setting up a 2x12 open back cabinet and going for alnico + ceramic speakers.

To be axact I want to try the Blackhawk 50 watts pairing it with the Reaper 55hz 30watts.

Given the fact that JTM 45 tends to be a bit woofy and usually players turn the bass all the way down to zero, the questions are:

1) the reaper 55hz will yield better results on the low frequencies or accentuate the problem? eg. if the amp lacks bass then you install the reaper 55hz or it's the other way around? or none?

2) the difference in wattage could cause unbalanced performance?

3) what would you suggest for a pair on jtm 45?

Thanks!

I like your idea ... but I'd pair the Blackhawk with a Green Beret ... that's the classic Greenback/Alnico Blue tone that's soooo magical with a JTM45 ... but without the possibility of smoking the Alnico blue!

JTM is approx. 40 watts and I always crank it! Blackhawk 50W + Berett 25W would be ok in terms of power handling? Is this in the "safe" zone or should I go for invader 50W?

And one last thing. would it be series or parallel speaker wiring? or it just doesnt matter?

Thanks for your input!

Yes ... definitely safe with the GB!

As for wiring ... if you want an 8-ohm final load ... go with a pair of 16-ohm speakers wired in parallel.

If you want a 16-ohm final load (As was/is the case with many vintage Marshall cabs) then go with two 8-ohm speakers in series.
