Hello.

I am a first time builder looking for any suggestions on a 2x12 - 2/3 closed back cab that I am planning. It would go with my Blackstar HT-20 head, I was looking to add some dimension over a single speaker cabinet.

I have seen suggestions here that you recommned the ET-65 with the Veteran 30 combination. Would this still be your pairing of choice for an all around combination?

I play a wide variety of musical styles and enjoy a nice sparkly top end, but center mostly on indie and blues rock and I love fuzz. One of my favorite combo amps is a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe if that helps as well.

Also being a first time builder, would you care to suggest a paring of 8ohm speakers in series or 16ohm in parallel ... or is that even relevent ?

Good choice on the 1/3 open ... my favorite by a huge margin!

For all-around ... I now suggest the Retro 30 with a ET65 or ET90.  The ETs are full of organic warmth & midrange (especially the ET65) and the Ret 30 has a super big/firm bottom & nice smooth extended top end!

Hey Vaughn. Thanks so much for the pairing suggestion. I did ended up building my own 2X12 paired with an Orange OR15H and this rig just sings. Such harmonic overtones, the lows and highs really shine! A match made in guitar heaven.

Congrats on the build! One very cool thing that I found to add "dimension" to your cabinet builds, is to add side vents on them. I did mine, by making the handles as open cut outs vor the vents. It sounds very dimensional, especially when you put the partial open back close to a wall. The sound comes from everywhere, and nowhere at once. It changed my sound in a really good way.
