Hello folks,
Like many others I'm popping in here with a "what do you recommend" post. For years I've replaced my amp speakers with Eminence speakers. I have heard a lot about WGS so I finally watched so YouTube comparison videos and now I'm sold on them.
I'm currently playing a Blackstar HT60 Stage 2x12 combo that I put JJ tubes in. It already sounds pretty good, but I'm really not a fan of the Celestion 70/80 speakers that are in it. They sound kind of dull and when using high gain they get fizzy. I also have a solid mahogany guitar that seems to be made of an especially dark cut of mahogany so sometimes the low end gets a little overbearing. I'm the lead guitarist for a cover band that does everything from Hootie and the Blowfish to A Perfect Circle to Kenny Loggins to Muse to Cee Lo Green so versatility is a must for me. I'm a metalhead at heart though so my amp HAS to sound good when using the high gain channel. I'm wanting to add some clarity and richness, tame the bottom end a little, and cut the fizz out and I'm hoping a speaker swap will do the trick.
After spending literally hours watching YouTube videos and browsing through forums I've decided that I definitely want a Veteran 30, but I'm a little torn between the Reaper, ET65, and the Liberator for my 2nd speaker. I've always used 2 different speaker types because it seems to add a richness that can't be acheived with using 2 of the same speakers. Considering that I'm new to WGS and this little forum seems to be full of folks with a vast amount of knowledge on them, I figured "why not ask the experts"?
So the question is out of the ET65, Liberator, and Reaper what would you pair with a Veteran 30 to go into my amp in my musical situation?
Thanks in advance for any responses.
Wow man, you started out with "I'm really not a fan of the Celestion 70/80 speakers that are in it. They sound kind of dull and when using high gain they get fizzy." ... and so I was ready to jump all over the ET65 ... and point you to some previous blogs and forum threads on this ...
But you followed it with "I also have a solid mahogany guitar that seems to be made of an especially dark cut of mahogany so sometimes the low end gets a little overbearing." ... soooo ...
In your unique case, I can confidently recommend you pair the Vet30 with the Reaper ... probably Reaper HP in your case.
Please post back w/your results :-)
Thanks for the response!
You've kinda confirmed what I was leaning on in my mind already. I want the bottom end to remain strong, just not as strong as it currently is.
Thanks again.
