Hello! I have a '93 Fender Blues Deluxe that I am converting into a 2 x 10 combo. A buddy of mine is building a new cabinet for it out of solid pine, and a birch baffle. Laquered tweed. The stock 12" speaker has always sounded harshly bright, farty, saggy, and lacking in low end. I am hoping to solve some of those issues with a pair of 10" speakers.
Would anyone be willing to throw some advice my way as to what 10" speakers to put in this crazy thing? Would the G10C's be too bright for this amp? I would dig some brownface vibe, but I still want some shimmering top end. Any wisdom for me?

Cool idea!
The G10's (ceramic or Alnico) are NOT overly bright ... thy are actually HUGE on the bottom end ... shoot, just HUGE everywhere.
So, go for a pair...
But ... for that little "brownface vibe" you mention ... make ONE a G10C/S.
Vaughn! Thanks for the recommendation. After posting I checked out the Vibrolux videos on YouTube. I gotta say, the Veteran 10"s had me at hello, however, if you recommend the G10C/G10C/S combo, then I think I might just have to trust ya!
Oh yea! I totally LOVE the Vet 10's ... very much sound like a vintage CTS 10. Go with them if you want a tone similar to an original blackface Vibrolux (I've got a '67). They will sound very warm, gentle, and vintage and will compress somewhat early. These sound excellent even at bedroom levels, and respond just like vintage 10's at club volumes and beyond.
The G10's just sound way bigger, louder, and have a lot tighter bottom end ... and will stay firm FOREVER in your combo.
So ... the decision is yours ... vintage goodness or a HUGE sounding 2x10 combo ... oh, and there is a considerable weight difference, of course!
The Veteran 10's have arrived! That was quick! My cabinet comes in next week. For now, all I can say is DAMN. These speakers look gorgeous and are well packed, and a genuine feeling of excitement came over me when I saw the WGS logo stamped on the box. I will report how they are sounding in the Blues Deluxe when I get everything wired up!
