I read an artitcle in ToneQust a few years ago where they paired an old Vox AC50 with a 4x12 closed cab loaded with 2 "aged" 12H30s (Avatar Hellatone 30s) and 2 Celestion Golds. They were positively giddy about the sound.
I have a '66 VOx AC50 that I want to pair with such a cab, but of course would rather use WGS sepeakers. I'm torn regarding whether the aging process they described makes sense (they thought it did) for the new WGS Reapers I'm considering. Do you do such "aging" or would you suggest the break-in technique suggested by Weber Speakers? Does it even make sense?
For best tone, would an 8-ohm or 16-ohm cab sound best with this amp (it's selectable on the amp)?
Now to source an empty cab!
Thanks in advance.
Super cool amp dude! I tried that aging process on a couple of speakers several years back ... and came to feel it's snake oil. I'd suggest standard break-in routine.
Oh, and of course, a pair of Blackhawk HP's and Reapers!
Please report back!
