I know the answer is right in my face, but I'd read too much and now it makes no sense to me anymore. So here it is... I have a head that is 100watts and its says its setup to handle 4 or 8 ohms. I'm building a 2x12 cabinet and need to know what wattage and ohms rating I need to safely handle this. I've heard that the total wattage of your speakers should be about twice the wattage of your amp(ex. my 100watt should have 200watts total from my speakers). Is this right? If not, what is? Would two 100 watt speakers at 4 ohms work with series wiring? Or am I way off base.

Well ... maybe with OTHER speakers ... but WGS speakers are rated the good old fashioned way, like, for instance vintage Celestions. A WGS speaker rated at 50-watts can take 50 honest to goodness real-deal tube watts.
As for impedance, in your case, just take the easiest & best route, get two 16-ohm speakers wired parallel for a total cabinet impedance of 8-ohms!
