I have a 1964 Gibson Skylark GA-5 amplifier (Crestline series) that is largely original.  It is my first amplifier.

Tone and volume controls on the guitar and the volume control on the amp must be tweaked in order to reach the "sweet spot."  When the "sweet spot" is reached the tone is vintage and absolutely wonderful.

However, the unit can be "ice pick bright."   The unit clearly favors humbucking pickups over single coils.  The humbuckers assist with mangaing the "ice pick bright" issue.  When the amp is above half way on the volume control the unit also tends to "bottom out."

The single 10" alnico speaker is orginal.  However, it is my sense that after fifty plus years it may be a little on the tired side.

Which 10" WGS speaker or speakers would you suggest as a replacement to elminate the "ice pick bright" and "bottoming out" issues, as well as provide outstanding well balanced tone?

Many thanks.

Yea ... the speaker IS probably tired ... but the same can be said for the filter caps, which ... along with the design of the amp ... may be part of the "bottoming out" problem you mention.

Having said that ... the G10C/s sounds like it will get you what you want ... smooth top end and the most solid possible bottom!
