I would like a suggestion for the best speaker for my 50 watt tube crate stealth combo. This amp is very trebbly and I would like to add to the bottom end. It has a marshall tone, maybe jcm 800, lots of distortion and I want to keep the British feel. I want that scooped 90s metal sound like metallica/megadeth/pantera. I will also dial down the distortion from time to time for that zeppelin/AC/DC sound. Thanks much.

Just thought I'd add this since nobody else has and for the benefit of those using the search...

The Stealth is a bright amp but part of that brightness is coming from the stock speaker and the fact that you have it in an open back enclosure.  For the combos, you need a speaker with a strong bottom and one that will cool that top end down just a bit.  The ET65 is a solid pick here.  You'll still have plenty of treble because the amp has plenty in reserve via the EQ and the presence control.  The ET65 is not particularly scooped but you can EQ that out when needed or run the mids back up for the Zep/ACDC stuff you mentioned.  You can get that scooped, classic Metallica tone with serious EQ adjustments but to really nail it, you need to run into a closed cab.

All of us Stealth users know that the clean channel is a thing of beauty and you don't want to lose that.  The 65 won't do anything to hurt it, that's for sure.  With the ET90 now available, you might want to try that one if you want even more on the bottom and top end - particularly in the open back combo.  I have used the ET65 myself but not the 90.

I run my Stealth head into a closed 4x12 with ET65s on the bottom and Hellatone 60Ls on top.  The Hellas use the 55hz "bass" cone and, Vaughan will tell you, the ET65s are just about the warmest speakers in the WGS inventory.  So, with "warm" and "dark" speakers combined in my slant cab...I still haven't run out of top end and my treble is set at about 2 o'clock with the presence around 9 o'clock.

Hope this helps someone out.

I know this is a pretty old post but like above I wanted to add to it since it was the only one I could find specifically addressing the Crate Stealth 50 combo amp.

As stated already, the Stealth 50 is a pretty bright amp, and the open back adds to the brightness. I can't make any comments on how it sounds with the stock speaker as when I got mine about two years ago it didn't have a speaker installed. I had a Celestion 70/80 on hand so I put that in. I know that's not the greatest speaker but it's adequate and has the Celestion tone. I was able to get a decent sound with it using an EQ pedal but the amp was still too bright and it didn't have the bass response I truly wanted.

About a month ago I started researching speakers. I was basically looking at anything that could add some bass and tame the highs. I read reviewes, watched video's , listened to sound samples til I was blue in the face. I looked at Celestion, Eminence, Jensen, WGS etc. Eminence & Jenson just didn't have anything that stood out to me. I liked some Celestions but they are a bit pricey. Then I looked at the WGS equivalents of the celestion speakers. When it came down to making my final decesions it was between the HM75 and ET65. Both sounded good in the samples I listened to and I ultimately picked the ET65.

The ET65 arrived earler today so I've only got a couple of hours on it but man was a huge difference. It's almost like this speaker was made to be paired with this amp. The brightness has been reigned in, it now has the bass response I want and mids are right where they need to be. I no longer feel the need to use the EQ pedal, the on board EQ is enough. I can even use the presence knob where before it was taped down at zero. This speaker really added the warmth the amp was lacking. I couldn't be more happy with this speaker choice and I'm sure it will only get better as it breaks in. I would recommend the ET65 to anyone wanting to replace the speaker in their Stealth 50 combo.
