I'm getting a 18W early plexi style amp built which will be going into a 2x12 open back bluesbreaker style cab.

I play blues, blues rock and classic rock with my clean tone being reminisant of Hendrix's Little Wing/SRV's Lenny and the crucnh being like Billy Gibbons-Gary Moore at the heaviest.

I knew a greenback styled speaker would be the best choice for the style of music I play, but was wondering which would be the best speaker for my needs.

I've had good experiences with greenback/v30 mixes, although I've never owned one so I'd like to try mixing speakers out

I'm slightly worried that

  • the Green Beret may loose too much bottom in the open backed cab
  • the standard Reaper may have too scooped a midrange for the classic greenback middle throat-like tone
  • the Invader may be where my head is at the moment

Pairing one of those with either the

  • Retro 30, advertised as brighter. I don't really like "brighter" amps, but I hear it's a great combination
  • Veteran 30, probably the front runner in this cataegory

I'm really confussed, so any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

I've decided to go for a 2x12" in-series bluesbreaker style instead.

I know a greenback and v30 mix ounds awesome, but for my needs as above, what would you recommend?

  • Green Beret and Vetren 30
  • Reaper and Vetren 30
  • Invader and Vetren 30

Thanks!

About half way through your original post, I was thinking Invader/Vet 30 ... sounds like the same decision you came to!

Go for it, and please post back w/your results.
