Just a short straight forward question to you guys:

What DC resistance can i approximately expect from a 16 ohm Reaper HP speaker?

The thing is: Via one of the WGS suppliers i ordered a 16 ohm speaker. As always, I checked the resistance first before powering up the amp the first time. Turns out that the DC resistance of this particular speaker reads around 7.2 ohms, which to me is typically the range for an 8 ohm speaker. For a 16 ohm speaker i would at least expect to see 11-12-13 ohms if i'm correct.

Can anyone elaborate on this? Might it be possible that there has been a mix-up? (the labels on the speaker and box clearly state 16 ohm though).

Yes, I checked the obvious: testing my DDM with other speakers, they all read as expected. Using another DDM got me the same results as well.

Thanks!

Robert.

Yes, to me it sounds like that one is labeled incorrectly.  You are correct, a DC resistance of 7.2 ohms is about on-par for an 8 ohm driver, not 16.

I'll also check with Dean, WGS prod. manager, to make sure there's nothing we're missing & post back here.

Thanks Vaughn, I'll keep my eye on this thread then.

In the meantime I've been testing this speaker on the 8 ohm setting and I'm really satisfied. So if it turns out to be an actual 8 ohm speaker that's just fine. It's a single speaker cabinet anyway and not one of my commercial builds, so i can get away with 8.

Any news Vaughn? Thanks

Hi Robert,  Yep, as suspected ... that is most definately a driver with what is considered a nominal impeadence of 8-ohms!

I guess it's case closed then. I'll change the written value to 8 then, to prevent future confusion.

Thanks!
