Hello!
A couple of months ago, I got myself an AFD100 amp made by Marshall (the Slash signature amp) , and it's a great sounding amp, but not through my cabinet! The first time i tried it I played it through a cab with greenbacks (in a store) and later through a cab with V30s (which i really enjoyed) at a friends house. At first I thought that my amp was faulty, because it sounded really muddy/mushy through the 75w celestions.. Just a lot of bass and mids and very little highs. I have to turn the presence to about 8-9 to get the amp to clear up, and then it's practically too much top-end.
So I figured that the speakers aren't the ones that I'm looking for (sonically) .. They worked great with a JMP-1/9200 combo I had earlier, but with this new head, it just sounds like crap. The sound I'm after is just a "generic" rock 'n' roll type sound (Guns 'n' Roses, Iron Maiden, Acca Dacca, Metallica, Thin Lizzy etc) . I know the amp can do all those sounds, but I'm not yet sure about what kind of speakers I should buy.. I really liked the sound of the Celestion V30s, so would your Veteran 30s be up for the task?
Last question: Since my cab is switchable between 4-16 ohms mono & 8ohms stereo, then I'd need to get 4 x 16ohm speakers right?
bump!
