Recently picked up a Marshall AVT50X combo, and I'm kicking around ideas of how to improve things. What I like about the AVT50 is that it's not too big to haul around for practice, but big enough and loud enough to keep up with other instuments, and appears ample for most gigs.

I'm looking at eventually pairing an external 112 cab (occasionally), and I'm thinking I could get the best of both worlds if I have one open or semi-open and one closed-back. The combo is closed right now, but I figure if I'm considering swapping speakers anyway, opening up the back is an option... By the way, I don't have much experience with closed-backs which is why I've got so many questions.

So a few questions:
1. Which would be better to have open? consider 90% of the time, I would play the combo alone. Typical music is blues, classic rock and Christian contemporary/rock.
2. What would be good speaker choices for the given scenarios, open vs. closed?

Thanks for your thoughts,

Tim
