Hi WGS: I have a divided by 13 RSA 23 with 2x12 Celestion G12M 25 watts. The clean sound is nice but when I use any overdrive/distortion pedal the sound become fizzy and trebbly and with that breaking cone sound. I am looking for speakers that allows me using distortion pedals and remain neutral. I was thinking using speakers with more wattage although the RSA is 23 watts. Any recommendation ?
Great Amp! But, yep, you just described the problem with low-wattage Celestions! My first recommendation would be a pair of Reaper 30's. They are still articulate (like your 25-watt GB's), but hold together when driven and don't have the overbearing upper mid bite!
Thanks Vaughn but don´t you think Reaper 30 watts are still low wattage speakers ? Yes I don´t want to lose articulation but really I hate the cone breaking kind fiizy sound when I use distortion pedals and I do a lot. What if I go for any combination like Retro 30 or Vet 30 and et-65 , Could it sounds too muddy or dull for the RSA ?
I appreciate any help.
Thanks Vaughn: May be the Reaper 30 is still a low wattage speaker ? I don´t want to lose articulation but I really hate that cone breaking kind of fizzy sound when use distortion and I do a lot. What if I go with any combination like the Retro or Vet 30 with ET-65 ? Some guy told me that the Veteran doesn´t sound fizzy at all but I´m afraid that It could sounds too dull or muddy What do you think ?
I appreciate any help.
Yep, the Reaper 30 is a low-wattage speaker - but does not fall apart at all like a Celestion GB! Oh, and the Vet 30 certainly shouldn't sound too dull or muddy ... but I still like the Retro 30's better. Throwing an ET65 in the mix may possibly pull that particular amp just a little too far towards the warm side ... but it and a Retro 30 could possibly be very nice.
