Just blew the Celestion Blue in my 20 watt Morgan. Tinking about getting the 15 watt WGS alnico, but would the 50 watt version be too much? Wild give me some more headroom?
I would just get the Blue re-coned to a 30 or 50 watt cone. You will come out cheaper that way. I don't know whether WGS offers reconing service or not, but there are several good speaker reconers in the US.
Yes! Recone the blue ... most of the money in that speaker is the big chunk of Alnico, not the cone. And yes, if you want to continue running it with a 20 watt head, have it reconed with a kapton former for 30-50 watts handling. If you need to get up and running right away, you could purchase a Blackhawk (same speaker only with a Kapton former ... for a 50-watt handling) ... and then when the blue gets back from being re-coned, sell it ... overall you'd be at about the same cost :-)
If you call the main WGS number and speak to Wayne or Dean, you might be able to work out a deal on getting a new Blackhawk and sending the Blue in for re-coning. Although, for the record, WGS isn't in the business of re-coning ...
