Digitech 2120 preamp going into a Samson Servo 120a stereo power amp (60 watts/channel @ 4 ohms) to a Marshall Vintage Modern 4x12 closed back cab.  I would like to experiment with making a custom back for the cab that would be semi open or variations there of.  The speaker configuration of the cab would be stereo (two 8 ohm speakers wired in parallel on the left and two 8 ohm speakers wired in parallel on the right) each pair of speakers tied to their own independent 1/4 inch phone jack.Trying to achive tones similiar to Petrucci, Satriani, Lynch, Malmstein  but also need to be able to produce nice sparkely clean as well. Not intending to achieve stage volume levels with this rig, but rather bedroom levels on up to jamming in a basement situation with a pretty loud drummer and bass guitarist. With the solid state amp that I will using, there will be no "power tube saturation" unfortunately.  So what speaker or speaker combo would fit best with a rig like this?    Thanks...Rich

Interesting rig!  I'm totally with you on the open/semi-open back.  Lately I've really been aware of the limitations of the closed back cabs (basically sounding way too boomy with no top-end unless you are directly in front of the cab).  I just bought a vintage blackface bassman 2x12 cab that, along with the stock back, has a 3-piece back that was well made and allows for open, closed, or 1/3 open.  The 1/3 is SOOO the sweet spot!  You still get a little extra thump over a fully open cab, but you also get the beautiful 3-dimensionality of a open back.   ... anyway...

I'd probably go with all ET65's.  They are so sweet ... smooth and balanced ... and really add a bit of magic to a SS amp.
