I have a V-Boutique single 12" open back speaker cab. Those nice guys suggested I send you a note about what speaker to use in the cab. It's kind of like a Matchless design and the dimensions are 25"w x 18"h x 9.25"d.
I use a couple of different tube heads including a Fender Greta (2 watt), a Fender SuperChamp X2 (15 watt), and a vintage MusicMan 65 Reverb. As the MusicMan puts out about 65 watts, the speaker needs to be able to handle that. I really don't use the Greta much, so most use will be one of the larger amps. Most of the time I run the amps at about 55-85% of full power and use my guitar volume control for loudness, drive, .... feeling! Guitars are a Fender American Deluxe Tele with SCN pickups, a double P90 equipped guitar, and a USA Hamer Studio (Les Paul double cut type) with Seymour Duncan very hot humbuckers (JB and a '59).
I play mostly very small (but loud) areas, house parties, and (lower volumes) at home. Usually doing blues and classic rock type stuff. The tones that I go for would be similar to players like Mike Bloomfield, early Peter Green, Robben Ford, Gary Moore, BB King, Warren Haynes, David Gilmour, Allman Brothers, and on and on.....
So, can you recommend one speaker that will do it all for me???? Looking forward to doing business with you soon. Thank you for your speedy response!
Wow ... man that's a bit of a stretch! From 2-65 watts ... and from Gilmore to BB !!
If it were me, it would be a Blackhawk HP. If you cant swing the big chunk of Alnico, I'd go with a Liberator ... but remember NO (!!) one speaker can maximize the little Gretta and still take a 65-watt tube head!
