I have an oversized open back 2x12. It's a bit of an odd bird because it was custom made to match the width of my head when oriented vertically. And I got it partial open back to keep the sound open and less directional. Anyway I am replacing the Chinese V30's, which I mostly like except for that sizzly high mid that makes it sound a little too modern & metal for me. I've always described the sound I don't like in V30's as being almost buzzy like a cheap OD pedal.

So realtive to my V30's I'm looking for: still a lot of mids, similar lows (or less), and similar highs (maybe a bit more, but no less). Mostly I can describe the sound I want to be lots of thick mids with just enough highs to make cleans and light OD tones lively and present. But I also don't want to be too smooth & mumbly and get lost in the mix - ugh! You all know the dilema.

I first tried the Invaders but I kinda hated them and they are in transit for return. I think i just don't like the Greenback sound - that ratty, gritty, trashy layer that sits on top of everything just immediately turned me off. I know a lot of people like it, so I'm sorry to bash it.

After speaking with Daniel at length we settled on the Liberator, though at first he was recommending the Vet30. He also steered me away from the ET65 for reasons I can't quite remember (too scooped maybe?). I felt confident right after we hung up but now I'm getting cold feet a little because I really don't want to ship back yet another pair. I am trying to ride the delicate balance of very thick, yet bright enough but not too bright. I wonder if the Liberators might be too bright and not thick enough. It's so hard to tell from clips because the RV50 clips here sound awesome, but the youtube demos by Brad make them sound maybe too bright and thin in the middle (maybe it's the different amps talking). I know the product write up says the Liberator is like an ET65 with the mids fattened up, which sounds awesome. My amp is a Bogner Goldfinger 45 (6V6), which is voiced more in the plexi realm (according to Reinhold). I play both an LP (with vintage PAF style HB's) and a std Tele.

Sorry for the long post. Any advice from those familair with the Liberator, ET65, Vet30 and V30?

Thanks!

Or, maybe one Lib and one ET65 ... a very nice combo.  The ET is a very warm and sumptuous speaker ... often too warm all by its self.
