Alright, I was looking at a Bugera 2x12 cab and was looking at getting the Retro 30-Reaper Combination for it for stereo running of my power amp for modeling. The back panel of this cab says it can run at 16 or 4 ohms for mono and 8 ohms on stereo, which is what I'd primarily use it for. What ohm reading should I order to meet this sort of need?
Thanks,
Ryan
Hey, I got one a while back, too. See: http://wgs4.com/difference-speaker-can-make-your-guitar-amp
I'm looking forward to hot-rodding it, it's such a cute little cab!
Youll want 2 8-ohm speakers.
Do you think running this setup as a stereo cab setup for modeling would be a good idea? Or do you think it would be better to simply get two of the same clear, large range speakers would be a better plan? I suppose I could just use these two as they sound great mono and mess around with my stereo signal to make the models that sound good with each speaker come out that speaker.
New thought: Instead of buying the cab, how about I just use the cab of a current 2x12 amp I'm overhauling and put the circuitry used in the Bugera into that? It's an 18-watt Crate V18 2x12 combo, and I picked it up for free, as it was malfunctioning for a friend and I thought I'd put some money into making it work again and sound great as a club amp or just something to have around so my college buddies would get off my back about sticking with modeling over the years and actually use a tube amp every once in a while. The stock speakers in it are crap, obviously, but they are rated at 16 ohms each for the 8 ohm mono output of the amp. Do you think I should follow suit and get the speakers at 16 ohms each like stock or would you think that's even necessary if I were to integrate that same switchable technology found in the Bugera cab? This way I could use one set of speakers for this combo by itself, as well as for setting a power amp on top of the combo and running my POD HD500 through the power amp into the speakers, bypassing the Crate altogether, right?
Thanks for all of your input, Vaughn. I really do appreciate it; service like this is hard to come by nowadays.
Sure ... if you LIKE that cabinet. Avatar sells just that impeadance switching jack plate ... it's on the accessories page.
