I recently bought a late '70s Lab Series K5 (keyboard) amp. 200 watts with 2 x 12" COAXIAL speakers. I'm a bass player and love the tone from this dinosaur, but I'm not inviting it to a gig with 40 year-old speakers. A quick search of the almighty internet didn't turn up any obvious replacement options. The schematic on the back of the amp shows two at 8 ohms and two (tweeters?) at 16 ohms. I would appreciate any advice on what might work here.

Wow, did you read my big ol blog on Lab Series amps? I LOVE those ol gals, the L7 4x10 is seriously sweet.

I've never seen a K5 personall6y, but I would really be careful using it as a bass amp because it's fully open-back ... and man can a bass make those speakers MOVE in infinite baffle.

Honestly, I can't think of what I'd replace them with ... especially for bass! Probably a pair of NEO's designed for bass and a separate pair of bullet tweets ... or just skip the tweeters altogether. Anything Coax will be hard to find and EXPENSIVE ... and you'll still blow em with a bass :-(

In WGS, I'd use a pair of WGS12L's ... but then ya got a twin-rte verb heavy amp ... ugg.
