I'm a newbee to WGS products. I didn't even know WGS existed!!! And I'm 58 and a lifetime musician (guitarist/keyboardist)
I just bought an Avatar Blonde/Oxford 2x12 cabinet cabinet with ET65's in it and it sounds absolutely INCREDIBLE!!! It's my favorite now! I can't believe the ET65's only list for $69 !!!!!!! Read on about all the other expensive 12's I've tried lately.
I've used Fender Dual Showmans with JBL's most of my life, the clean clean sound with much more volume than is ever needed, sound with no speaker breakup (used distortion pedals for overdrive) But...in the last few years I decided I wasn't happy with that tone anymore. I wanted to venture out into the realm of something else, speakers that other guitarists typically use, in search of the "Holy Grail" of Tone"
So, for the last few years I've bought a ton of 12's off ebay, anything that looked promising. I bought Webers, Jensens, Celestion Blues, Greenbacks, Pros, Golds, Vox Vintage 30's, Bull Dogs, several different Fender vintage speakers, and some lesser popular brands and models.
Recently I bought 2 Avatar 2x12 cabinets, the ones that kind of look like the smaller vintage Fender 2x12 cabinet. That's my cabinet of choice now, and I've owned tons of cabinets. So I used those cabinets to test all my 12's and do side by side-by-side comparisons.
The ET65's (white basket) out performed all the others, even the $299 blues and Greenbacks. I'm still in misbelief over that, but my blast tests over the weekend in my acoustic room confirm this.
The ET65's have more bottom than all the others, just like so many others have mentioned in their reviews of the ET65's.
My UK made Celestion Blues I own, which are totally broken in, have a harsh midrange compared to the ET65's. Not just kind of harsh, REEEALLY noticable harsh midrange. I didn't even notice it until I compared them to the ET65's!!
I thought the hi-Hz range of the ET65 vs BLue vs the Greenbacks were almost identical. I was worried the ET65's woundn't have enough hi's because everyone that's reviewing ET65's said they calmed the hi end. Well I don't want that. I want lots of high end. I'm into the bright Strat tone, powerful and clean when needed, and with gradual breakdown as I push them.
THe ET65's really shine in the Avatar 2x12 open back....REEEAALLY. They sounded so full, not the typical weak bottom end you expect from an open back. The Blues sounded worse in an open back. THe ET65's sounded like TOTAL quality!!!
The ET65's basket is white. They look absolutely stunning in the rear of the Avatar 2x12 "open back" Blonde Tolex/Oxford grill cabinet with it's interior 13 ply furniture grade white Birch. Absolutely stunning!!! I wish I could post the picture here. The Avatar cabs have no particle board in them, all hi-grade Birch. So the white ET65's look like they're in a showroom in there. (back view)
I purchased the Blonde Avatar cabinet just for the cabinet. The surprise was the ET65's that came with it!!!! I thought at $69 they''d be just another inexpensive "wanting" speaker. NOT!!! Now I can only imagine what the WGS $299 speakers must sound like!!!!
More later as I calm down. Just wanted to post some of my findings, and rave over the ET65. I purchased these from a Grammy winning artist. Can't believe he parted with them. Well, they'll be in my arsenal for a long time.

PS My test amp was a vintage Laney Pro-tube 50w amp (looks like a 60's blackface Hendrix Marshall head) I used my Avatar cab's in their open-back and closed back configurations (yes they can do both)
We love what we do ... and we love to here these reports!
Sounds like your next purchase should be a WGS Blackhawk ... just warning you though, it may cause your heart rate to get above safe numbers! I see some Celestions hitting eBay soon ... :-)
