Hello Guys, hi Vaughn,

today I want to try a new mix or a second try for a speaker pairing in a 2x12er cab.

Therefore I have these questions and I am thankful for anyone who could tell a little bit

about the musical sound I will get - sound character etc..

Invader - a pair in a closed back - or better semiopen?

Will it be warmer than the Celestion Greeny tone? Whatelse

Retro and ET 65 in a mix, this is often recommend for the best mix in a closed cab,

but I still like more 2 of the ETs in that cab, bacause the Retro sounds sometimes a little

bit too trebly against the ET 65 which is better in overdriven tone.   ????

Veteran, the Vintage 30 competitor??? Alone or in a mix with the ET65???

What type of cab then - closed or semiopen???

At least is the Invader a more open focus soundkeeper and warmer with less high peaks

than a Green Beret or Greenback????

Thanks a lot more for all who will tell some experience in that way!! Thanks Vaughn for his

patience and nerv for our -never-ending-search for best speaker chose!!!

Greetings Holly

Hi Holly, sorr to take so long in answering this ... I'll do my best :-)

--------------------------------------------------

Not really, they are prety much on-par with a pair of green-backs, tone-wise.  The big diference is that they will not begin to compress and distort early like the 25-watt GB's do.  I personally find the Invaders work just as well open, closed, or semi-open.

Retro and ET 65 in a mix, this is often recommend for the best mix in a closed cab, but I still like more 2 of the ETs in that cab, bacause the Retro sounds sometimes a little bit too trebly against the ET 65 which is better in overdriven tone. ????

Yes, the Ret has a lot of top end ... I now prefer the ET-90/Ret 30 mix ... because the ET-90 slightly over-powers the Ret30 and becomes the more dominant voice ... whearas the Ret 30 could slightly overpower the ET-65.

Veteran, the Vintage 30 competitor??? Alone or in a mix with the ET65??? What type of cab then - closed or semiopen???

If you find the Ret 30 a bit too bright, you might prefer the Vintage 30 ... almost the same sound, but with a little less sparkle and a bit less low-bottom.  Open/closed ... Could go either way.  I prefer open, myself.

At least is the Invader a more open focus soundkeeper and warmer with less high peaks than a Green Beret or Greenback????

Not really, again they are voiced VERY similar!

Hope this helped!  -Vaughn-

Hi Vaughn, it doesn't matter as it is a pleasure you will help in the way i could go now!

Thanks a lot for your descriptions, and of course its always funny and helpful to see your videos!

Your a very kindly guy Vaughn!

In all this ways I think the ET65 will stay and the Retro will change anyway...

But in case of all the facts I think about the power I will get with a ET90 plus Ret???

The amps I use, all tubeamps, have maximum power 30 watt, therefore I think it will be

better not to go in such highpower??? Maybe if the cabinet gets out maximal 100 watt, so both

speaker will work??

Example: ET65 -65watt - plus a Reaper HP 50 watt = just similar power and db dynamic???

ET65 - plus Retro, you are right the Retro overpowers and the cab has 135 watt out???

ET90- plus Retro...even more power, maybe too much for a 30 watt or 20 watt amp???

Therefore it is a better way to think about medium speakers to get a harmonic output with both

speakers, or even to take 2 speakers of the same rate.????

Kind Greetings and thanks a lot for all help in finding a good way!!

The amps all have 6l6/5881 tubes if that is important for speaker chose.

Vaughn, you've got me thinking about yanking out the Vet30 in my SS22 (used with a Retro 30 in  a closed back cab) and replacing it with the ET90. From your SS22 demo the 90 sounds nice and spanky and the combination of the two seems like it would be a winner.
