Hello,
I am looking for speakers to fill a 2x12 fender style piggy back cab. I am using a 64 bassman aa864 circuit. I am looking for something with pronounced mids and pretty early breakup. Maybe something similar to the weber ceramic blue dogs? I play heavier experimental stuff, but tend to lean toward a more classic rock, vintage type sound. Any recommendations?
Thanks in advance...
Chris
A man after my own heart! (unless your a girl...)
Love my '65 Bassman (and any of my Bandmasters) through my original '65 2x12 small-box Fender cab ... I have a 1/3-open back in it ... which REALLY opened it up compared to the closed-back. I'm running one Reaper and one Reaper HP. I didn't think I'd like that combo, but it's what I had lying around that I could affort to drop in her ... and man is it perfect! Probably would be too big & warm for closed-back though.
For "something with pronounced mids and pretty early breakup" with a 40-watt Fender the best bet is a pair of Green Berets! But, the Reapers would be good, too...
Thanks for your reply. I absolutely love this amp! I had the "marshall" mod done on the bass channel and can get a spanky clean from the normal channel. So, it covers all the sounds I need brilliantly.
The reaper might be just the ticket. Do you think its okay to run two 30 watt speakers with the bassman? Or should I look into the high power stuff.
What about an invader/reaper combo?
Thanks again,
Chris
P.S. I am a man (Christopher)
Thanks so much for your response Vaughn. I think I will end up going with the reaper/reaper hp combo. I am having a custom cab built and I am having it made with a 1/3 open back as well. Can't wait to hear this setup!
Thanks again,
Christopher (yup I'm a dude)
In my first post, I meant to say Reaper & Reaper 55 (not HP) ... that's what I've got in my 2/3-back original Bassman cab ... I don't usually recommend the 55hz Reapers ... but in this cab, and with the Blackface Bassman (my ch1 has the Marshall mod, too) ... it just works ... and yes, two reapers are safe up to 60 true RMS tube watts!
Oh wow! I'm stoked to try this! Thanks for clearing that up. I'll let you know what I think...
Sorry about the sort of double post^^ I didn't think I posted that first one...
Vaughn,
After listening to a bunch of your youtube demos (which are great and I thank you for doing them) I think I'm going to go with 1 retro 30 and 1 green beret. I think thats going to really do it for me. I'll let you know how it turns out...but I think it's gonna be perfect.
Thanks again,
Chris
